Summary

Problem

It can be difficult to keep track of all the details, such as which vendors are assigned to which events, contacting venues for availability, or remembering to complete specific tasks for each event, among other duties.

Solution

I designed Plannit, a mobile platform that allows event planners to stay up-to-date on upcoming events, keep track of contacts, such as clients, vendors, and venues, and manage tasks for each event.

Goals

  • Business: create a platform that is accessible for freelance event planners and vendors, tapping into a potential new market.
  • Users: create a platform that is accessible for freelance event planners, tapping into a niche market.

My role

I conducted user research via surveys and personas, then I designed the wireframes and high-fidelity designs in Figma. I also translated the designs from Figma into Expo (React Native).

Overview

Why Plannit?

Before I became a designer and developer, I was an Event Coordinator working at a boutique hotel in NYC. We worked with a large portfolio of clients and vendors, and produced dozens of private events per month. However, whenever we scheduled an event, we would take a dry-erase marker, walk up to a giant calendar in our office wall, and write in the event name and details, like start time/end time, and guest count.

Feeling that this was too archaic, I thought there had to be a better way. That’s where the idea for “Plannit” was started! The goal was to create an app that would help event planners, venues, and vendors connect and keep events organized.

Understanding the user's needs

When users were asked about their experience planning events, here's what they said...

  • "I have a network of vendors I work with that I refer to to my clients, and they know the event spaces I work with inside-out. I'd love to be able to keep a list of vendors that I can choose from and assign them to events."
  • "It's difficult to keep track of various tasks for each of my events."
  • "I need a way to view all my upcoming events with a details at a quick glance. Right now, we use a giant calendar with post-it notes on our wall!"
